Mississauga Community Greening Initiatives and Projects

Mississauga is involved in numerous green initiatives and projects. Examples include:

The Yellow Fish Road Program

The Yellow Fish Road Program educates the public about the dangers of dumping unwanted household hazardous wastes, like used motor oil, paint, and solvents, down storm sewer drains or catch basins.  Yellow Fish Road volunteers in Mississauga place Yellow Fish decals, using non-toxic adhesive, beside the catch basins.  Volunteers also distribute fish-shaped brochures to nearby households.

Earth Hour

Earth Hour is an international-scale initiative that encourages everyone to turn off (non-essential) lights in an effort to promote action on climate change.  In addition to promoting the event, the City has participated in Earth Hour for the past two years by reducing energy consumption through actions such as turning off lights in City facilities where safe and feasible to do so.
