The City of Vaughan, one of Canada’s fastest growing cities is the first Municipality to achieve consecutive successes at the Provincial, National and International levels of the Communities in Bloom Program.   Our garden displays the use of Xeriscaping principles, solar power and other “green initiatives” that could be utilized in gardens of any size throughout the GTA.  The City of Vaughan is actively participating in this program through its Local Beautification and Community Initiatives and is proud host of the 2009 National Communities in Bloom Conference.

Community Greening Initiatives and Projects

The City of Vaughan leads by example utilizing the Xeriscaping  principles of proper plant selection, alternative ground covers, as well as the use of drought tolerant and indigenous plants where possible.  Our Parks and Forestry Department continues to promote the diversification of our urban forest to promote biodiversity.  Vaughan’s Horticulture section continues to explore the use of drought tolerant perennials and self watering containers for annuals thereby reducing the need for excessive water and fertilizer.  Vaughan’s renowned sports field facilities are maintained utilizing IMP (Integrated Pest Management) and a very strict field use schedule which allows us to provide premium quality sports fields without the use of pesticide.
