The National Capital Commission (NCC) is proud to illustrate in this garden the Royal Canadian Legion’s "red poppy". It stands as a powerful symbol of Remembrance, and recalls the sacrifice of Canadians who gave their lives in the service of their country. In 2010, Canadians solemnly observed the “End of an Era”, with the passing of Mr. John “Jack” Babcock, Canada's last known Veteran of the First World War. This year also commemorates the 65th Anniversary of end of the Second World War as well as the centennial of Canada's Navy.
